Meta Tags Pro (“we”, “us”) is an independent software product operated from India. It is a Chrome extension built so that your pages, your audit results and your browsing stay on your computer. This page explains exactly what that means. Questions go to abhij89@gmail.com.

The short version

What the extension can access

The extension asks Chrome for three permissions when you install it: activeTab and scripting, so the page check can read the tab you are looking at when you click the extension, and storage, so it can remember settings on your computer.

It does not request access to all websites at install time. Access to a site for the whole-site audit is optional. Chrome shows a prompt for your site (both http and https, with and without www) when you start an audit, and only if you approve does the crawl begin. You can withdraw that access at any time in Chrome's extension settings.

What is stored, and where

DataWhereWhy
Audit results: the pages found, their titles, descriptions, headings, links and the issuesThis browser only (IndexedDB)So you can reopen an audit, compare audits and pause or resume a crawl
A short history of page scores per site (up to 10 per site)This browser only (extension storage)The trend line in the page check
Display choices such as dark mode and Guided or AdvancedThis browser onlyTo remember your settings
Your Pro license key and the last result of its checkThis browser onlySo Pro keeps working between visits and offline for a short time

Uninstalling the extension removes all of it. You can also delete any saved audit inside the extension.

What the crawl fetches

When you audit a site, your browser requests that site's pages, its robots.txt file and its sitemap, the same requests a visitor or a search engine makes. They go from your browser straight to the site you chose. The results are analysed in your browser and are not copied anywhere else.

The one-click page check reads the tab you click it on. To check for a robots.txt and a sitemap it requests those two files from the same site.

Links to other tools

The page check includes links to third-party tools such as validators and domain reports. Nothing is sent until you click one. When you do, the address or domain of the page you are on is part of the link, and the tool's own privacy policy applies from then on.

Buying and the license check

Payment is handled by Gumroad. You pay on Gumroad's page, and Gumroad collects your payment details and email address under its own privacy policy. We never see your card details. Gumroad tells us about your purchase, including your email address, so we can support you and process refunds.

When you paste a license key into the extension, the extension sends one request to api.gumroad.com with the key and our product identifier, to confirm that the key is valid, belongs to this product and has not been refunded, charged back or ended. The extension repeats the check at most once a day while it is in use. Gumroad receives the key and your connection details (such as your IP address) as it does for any request, and Gumroad returns whether the license is active. We do not receive a copy of that request.

The extension asks Chrome for access to api.gumroad.com only when you click to activate a license.

A license can be activated on up to 3 browsers. The count is kept by Gumroad. Removing the license inside the extension clears it from that browser only. It does not release the activation, so write to us if you need an activation reset.
